  • Sweetener: 8 ounces of piloncillo or 1 cup of dark brown sugar.
  • Spices: 6 whole cloves 4 cinnamon sticks.
  • Extras: 2 tablespoons dried hibiscus flowers 1 tamarind pod (peeled).
  • Base: 16 cups of water.
  • Pro Tip: If you can find seasonal fruits like tejocotes Mexican hawthorn or sugar cane sticks, add them for an authentic touch.

Instructions
 

  • Prep Your Ingredients: Cut the fruits into chunks and gather your spices.
  • Combine and Simmer: Place all the ingredients in a large stockpot, add water, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and let it simmer for at least 30 minutes.
  • Taste and Adjust: Stir to dissolve the piloncillo completely and adjust the sweetness to your liking.
