  • 1 head cauliflower cut into florets
  • 1 head broccoli cut into florets
  • 12 oz smoked sausage sliced into rounds
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 medium onion finely diced
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown sausage slices for 5–7 minutes. Set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and cook for 3–4 minutes. Stir in garlic for 30 seconds.
  4. Lower heat and add cream cheese, stirring until melted. Whisk in heavy cream and simmer for 3–5 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and fold in cheddar cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Combine broccoli, cauliflower, and sausage in a large bowl. Pour cheese sauce over and mix.
  7. Transfer to baking dish and bake for 15–20 minutes until bubbly and golden. Broil for extra browning if desired.
  8. Let rest a few minutes before serving.

Notes

- Briefly steam or blanch broccoli before combining if desired.
- For extra crispy topping, broil but watch closely.
